As the novices set out on their year of discernment, we celebrate one friar's completion of that year as he makes his first profession of vows, while another six men take their first steps on the journey of brotherhood in Postulancy.
Br. Edgar's First Profession of Vows
Our brother Edgar Pereira, OFM Cap., made his first vows in our Capuchin brotherhood on July 22nd, the feast of Mary Magdalene, at the Mt. Alvernia Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of the Newmann communities in Millvale, PA. You can see complete photos of the Mass and Profession of Vows in our website gallery. Here are just a few of those photos that caught our eye to share. A "welcoming dinner" was held the night before the Profession for Edgar's family, and the family was there in force. Br. Matt Hindelang, OFM Cap., our roving photographer, caught a lovely moment during the Mass with Edgar in his mom's embrace.
6 Men Begin their Postulancy Year
July saw the beginning of a new year for the fraternity of Padre Pio in Philadelphia, PA, as 6 men began their journeys as Postulants in the Capuchin community. Postulants Greg Benjamin, Joe Morton, John Phan, Julio Diaz, Luke Kim and Seth Dwyer received the TAU cross and the blessings of the gathered friars on July 16th. The new postulants will be spending their first year in fraternity under the leadership and guidance of our brothers Kip Ledger, OFM Cap. (below on the left of our Provincial Tom Betz, OFM Cap.) and Jim Mungovan, OFM Cap. In living together and praying together, the men will have time to minister to people in the neighborhood while learning more about the Capuchin life to which they feel called. Won't you join us in prayer for them? May the Lord give them the peace and show them the way to best live in his Goodness and Compassion as "brothers of Jesus Christ and sons of the Most High" as St. Francis invites us all.
