Capuchin golf color logo320The 2018 Fr. Bill Memorial Golf Outing was a great success on Friday, August 3rd. It was preceded the night before by a Mass celebrated by Province Secretary Frank Yacobi, OFM Cap. The music group was a reunion of various musicians from over the years. St. Fidelis Seminary closed its doors 38 years ago, but we're so grateful to our alumni and their families who continue to hold their experience of community and faith precious - as well as remembering the faith and dedication of our Capuchin brothers who served there.

GOLF MeissnerA photo appeared of former St. Fidelis prof Mr. Jim Meissner (left, center). He and his wife are members of St. Mary Parish in Herman, PA, and Jim taught Mathematics and coached some pretty awesome championship basketball teams. He's pictured here with alumni-fans Rege Franz, Rich Nugara, Oscar Miller, Larry Cresce, Paul DiMaio and Jim Freeman.

This year's Gold Outing raised over $35,000 for the "Bill Wiethorn Scholarship Fund," benefitting the formation of our friars. In spite of the morning rain, the outing was deemed a great success, with 108 golfers and many friends and St. Fidelis alumni joining in for lunch.  Another former teacher, Martha Novelly, was also on hand (far right, below).

We know that a number of friars were able to pop-in for the luncheon and visit. The office offered a special thanks to alumnus Dave Schaffner (above, far right) for all the effort he put into the golf outing as well as the Mass and dinner the night before (he's working with fellow alumnus Tom Grey to increase contact with the alumni). Thanks from all of our friars for all the work done by our Support offices!
