The three Patriarchs of St. Augustine Friary
October 2024
Our brother Leon Leitem, Colman Studeny & Sam Driscoll
On his 90th birthday on August 28, 2024,
Colman made a trip to the BVM statue in the courtyard of the Friary unit
to commend his mother, father and brother to the Blessed Mother's care.
To celebrate Colman‘s 90th birthday,
the fraternity invited Colman‘s cousins and extended family
to join the fraternal celebration.
On that day, Colman also asked to be seated
in front of the Blessed Sacrament,
knowing his time on earth was drawing to a close.
Another fellow missionary, Allan Wasiecko, visited Colman often, too,
and while not sure exactly who Colman was,
owing to Allan's increasing memory loss,
he decisively concluded that Colman "was a very nice guy."
Commonly, brother Colman would say,
“skip the medicine just give me a Big Mac."
It was his favorite food -- always.
VIATICUM / Food for the Journey
During Colman‘s time in hospice care at the,
motherhouse various friars brought Communion each day.
Our confrere Brian Newman, a fellow missionary & classmate,
found special pleasure in visiting Colman often.
Our brother Colman slipped into sleep
that led him to his peaceful death
under the cherished image of the cross;
that cross was given him in 1963
when he was missioned to serve
the church of Papua New Guinea.
Rest in peace, brother . . .
Return to our brother Colman's remembrance . . .
or read of our other brothers who have passed on to the Lord.
