Major Superiors meet in Pittsburgh

The Conference of Major Superiors of Men met in Pittsburgh last weekend.  Our brother John Pavlik, OFM Cap., CMSM Executive Director,  was on all cylinders for the meeting.

Sacred Heart reaches out in El Salvador

Fr. Moisés Villalta, OFM Cap., Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Washington, DC, sent us word of a recent trip to his home country with members of his parish community. He writes:

“The Missionaries of St. Francis of Assisi, a group from our parish here in Washington, have just returned from its third mission trip to El Salvador. This time we were accompanied by our brothers Fr. Urbano Vasquez, OFM Cap., and Br. Juan Antonio Ortiz, OFM Cap. The mission was accompished in response to our beloved Pope Francis' invitation ‘to go and evangelize all people and to be in a continual state of conversion.’

"The mission is in the most remote territory of El Salvador, in the area called Morazán - north of St. Miguel.

Seven Friars profess First Vows

       With a very good showing of friars on Satuday, July 19, our Provincial Minister David Nestler, OFM Cap., accepted the first vows of (from left in photo above) Ross Henley, Francisco Lopez, Diogo Escudero, Thomas Piolata, Qiang (Keon) Tu, Brian Wolford and Saul Soriano. The chapel of Mt. Alvernia in Millvale, PA, the home of our sisters in St. Francis, was filled with friars, families, friends and our wonderful sister-hosts.

Fr. Lester looking "over the shoulder"

LesterOur brother Lester Knoll, OFM Cap., sent us the news that his book, Looking Over His Shoulder is now published.

Fr. Lester comments about the book: “The remarkable theologian Karl Rahner said that the future believer will either be a mystic or not believe at all. That was in 1964. A mystic is simply a person who has had a personal encounter with the Lord.”

Puerto Rico Novices begin life in Columbia

Our custody of Puerto Rico has welcomed two novices into our life who recently received the Capuchin habit as they begin their year of novitiate to discern the Lord's call. Bishop Bill Fey shepherds Kimbe

   Our brother Bishop Bill Fey, OFM Cap., now serving as Bishop to Kimbe in Papua New Guinea, was highlighted in a recent article in the Catholic Leader, the official paper of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane, Australia.  The article serves as a great testimony to Bishop Bill's work in the small, but fervent, diocese.

Marek Przeczwski, OFM Cap., current director of the Office. They met to listen, evaluate and make suggestions for coordinating the activity of communications on the International level.
