On Saturday, November 15, the St. Francis Community of the Secular Franciscan Order celebrated the profession of their newest members during a Mass celebrated at Capuchin College in Washington, DC. Local Minister Janice Benton, OFS, received the professions of the newest Franciscans, Arlyn Sweeney and Michele Thiec. Theresa Armstrong, OFS, and Dee Calisto, OFS, were their respective sponsors and supports during their Franciscan formation. Lolita Jardeleza, community Formation Director witnessed the Professions on behalf of the community family.
The friars of the local Capuchin fraternity have accompanied the local Secular community with their support, friendship and prayers for more than 50 years of the community's existence. For the Mass, Fr. Bob McCreary, OFM Cap., served as Celebrant, while friars Brian Newman, OFM Cap., and Stephen Fernandes, OFM Cap., former Assistant to the community now serving in Cumberland, MD, concelebrated. Br. Al Carver, OFM Cap., the present Spiritual Assistant of the local community, led the musical support for the Mass, while friars from the local fraternity joined their prayers and support for the newest members of our Franciscan family.
