Annual activities on behalf of Life got off the ground on Wednesday, January 21, in Washington, DC, with a Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception our own Sean Cardinal O’Malley, OFM Cap., as presider. The following day, the day of the March for Life, our Capuchin brothers gathered for their annual Mass to add our presence and prayers to life's precious gift.
Both friars and friends gathered in the crypt of the Shrine for the annual Capuchin Mass for Life. Cap College guardian, Paul Dressler, OFM Cap., presided, Bob McCreary, OFM Cap., of Cap College preached, and John Paul Kuzma, OFM Cap., of Our Lady of the Mountains in Cumberland, MD, served as deacon. Other brothers from Cap College led the music, coordinated by Brs. Al Carver, OFM Cap., Kip Ledger, OFM Cap., and James Watson, OFM Cap.
After the Mass, friars and friends alike headed downtown to join the thousands marching to the US Supreme Court Building, starting at the White House and passing by the US Capitol.
The text and video of Cardinal Sean's homily is online. "The Pro Life movement in the Catholic Church is about overcoming . . . indifference, indifference to the suffering of a woman in a difficult pregnancy, indifference to the voiceless child who is destined to be part of the statistic of a million killed in the womb each year, indifferent to the poverty and suffering of so many. Indifference is our greatest enemy."
Please join us in prayer and action for life from conception to natural death - and for the women and the poor whose lives and decisions are most affected by our own.
Here are some photos from the event.
